I need a tin of paint

“I need a tin of paint” is a simple request we hear daily, but questions must be asked!

We are not being difficult I promise (and we see the fear in your eyes!) We’re not being nosey either, we just want to make sure we are selling you the right paint for the right job! So this month let’s have a look at just one type of paint we have on offer, emulsion.  Also known as wall and ceiling paint, emulsion is made for (wait for it…..) walls and ceilings. But not all emulsions are equal. So what do we stock?

Retail Matt – matt is the flattest finish sitting at a 2 on a sheen scale of 1-10. It’s great if your walls are less than perfect as it tends not to highlight any uneven areas and is generally the preferred choice for ceilings. The only drawback is that it’s not washable.

Retail Soft Sheen – this has a sheen level of 4, it’s certainly not shiny but it does reflect the light a little and can be gently wiped down. It complements many of our shinier papers well.

Retail Silk – 6 on the sheen scale and a definite shine with this one! It’s the most durable of the three retail emulsions and certainly the easiest to clean so great for areas that may have to work hard.

Covaplus Vinyl Matt – This is a trade paint and can be mixed to your chosen colour. It’s a little pricier thatn the retail version and has superior opacity, meaning it covers better and therefore often goes further than the reatil versions. As a comparison 2.5 litres of retail paint covers up to 32m2, where as Covaplus covers up to 42.5m2. The beauty of this paint is that it’s a Matt finish but it can be wiped down and it can also be spray applied.

Bathroom paint – we stock this in a mid-sheen and it’s specially formulated to resist moisture and stains. Great for areas with high condensation as it also protects against mould, and it is wipeable and durable too.

Kitchen paint – we have this in matt and it’s been designed to resist grease and stains. 25 times tougher than regular retail Matt, this can be cleaned with confidence.

All of the above emulsions contain minimal VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) so are less polluting than some other paints. They are low odour and dry within 1-2 hours and equipment can be cleaned up with water. All can be applied with synthetic brush, roller or paint pad.

2 coats are always recommended (sometimes a 3rd if painting over strong or contrasting colours), leaving 2-4 hours between coats

So that’s it, that’s what’s on the shelf and ready to go! If you require something a bit more specialised, please ask and we will be happy to help.
