To tester pot or not
A question we’re often asked is: “Do you mix tester pots?”
The short answer? No—and here’s why.
Unfortunately, testers aren’t always accurate.
Our paint mixing machine is calibrated for 1-litre quantities, and scaling formulas down to a 350ml tester pot doesn’t always work. For example, if a formula calls for 0.25 of a tint in a litre, that becomes just 0.0875 in a tester. While our software can provide a close approximation, we often feel it’s not reliable enough for you to confidently base your final colour choice on.
Instead, we prefer to work with you directly. We take the time to listen, offer expert advice, and guide you through our extensive range of paint colour charts —drawing on our years of experience to help you find the perfect shade.
Once your colour is mixed, we always “try it and dry it.” (You’d be surprised how much paint can change as it dries!) We’ll make sure you’re happy with the result before you leave, and we can even tweak it slightly if you’d like it a touch lighter or darker.
Bringing in items you’d like the paint to match can be super helpful. The obvious one is wallpaper, but we’ve also matched colours to cushions, tiles, kitchen drawers, carpets, curtains, sofas—and some more unusual items too! A few memorable requests: a certain pig-shaped sweet (sorry, Markies!), a customer’s nails, and even a dairy cow—though that one only made it in photo form.
So why not pop in, pick up a free paint chart, and start your colour journey with us? We’d love to help.
