Don't come unstuck!
Ok so you’ve picked your paper now to get it on the wall!
Blu tack & drawing pins were fine for your samples but now you are going to need a more permanent solution!
“It’s fine I’ve got a bag of paste at home” we hear you cry but stop! Not all adhesives are equal!
So how do you know what you need for the job? Well the easiest way is to ask us but you can also read the instructions!
We know they are dull, we know you can’t find your reading glasses, we know you hung paper 12 years ago with that open bag you still have in the drawer (and it was fine!) but please, we beg you, don’t ruin your beautiful new wall covering by hanging it with the wrong product!
Different products need different solutions. Most “papers” or lighter weight vinyls truly are fine with flaked paste made up to the appropriate consistency but what about those heavyweights that you all love?
Well not only are these guys heavy but they are absorbent too and will expand as they drink in the water from your chosen adhesive. It’s why the instructions will ask you to wait for a small (but frustrating) amount of time between applying the glue and sticking it up. We highly recommend tea and biscuits to help with this part of the process!
Once fully loaded and dangling precariously from your arms the glue has 2 jobs to do
- Bond the wallcovering to the wall
- Hold the surface tension of the wallcovering as it dries to prevent it from shrinking back and opening up all of your seams!
Ready mixed adhesive is often advised by both the manufacturer and ourselves for these kind of products. With less water content and more sticking power it gets the job done!
Feel free to ask if you have any questions on this or any other wallpapering subject, we will always do our best to keep you right!
